Firm/Studio Name
GRUHAAN_ARCHITECTS
How did you come up with the name of your studio?
GRUH IS A SANSKRIT WORD FOR HOME. AND I WANTED TO KEEP IT RELATABLE WITH WHAT WE DO, SO THAT’S HOW WE CAME UP WITH GRUHAAN.
What determined your passion for design? Tell us about the moment when you decided this is the way to go.
I GOT INTO DESIGN BECAUSE I WAS GOOD AT ART. I’D ALWAYS HAD AN ABUNDANCE OF CREATIVITY. ART, THEN LATER DESIGN WAS A WAY FOR ME TO CHANNEL THAT CREATIVITY INTO SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE AND ULTIMATELY A CAREER.
What kind of projects were you doing when you first started as a designer?
MOSTLY STARTED WITH SMALL INTERIOR PROJECTS SUCH AS OFFICES, RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL SPACES, ETC.
AND SOME ARCHITECTURAL RENOVATION PROJECTS.
What field of design are you most interested in?
RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL SPACES LIKE CAFES, RESTAURANTS, SALONS, ETC…
What is your favourite book/magazine on design? How about your favourite site?
ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST
ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN
DEZEEN
GOOD HOMES MAGAZINE
BEHANCE IS ONE OF THE SITES WE ARE CRUSHING FOR.
What is your Signature Style?
EVERY PROJECT HAS ITS OWN IDENTITY SO RATHER THAN KEEPING IT THE SAME (THEME) ALWAYS, WE TRY TO DESIGN WHAT THE SITE GIVES US.
WE USE CLIENT’S LIFESTYLE AND THEIR CULTURE IN OUR DESIGN TO MAKE THE SPACE MORE USABLE AND FUNCTIONAL.
What inspires you to thrive in this industry? Which piece of architecture inspires you the most.
ARCHITECTURE IS A CREATIVE FIELD THAT REQUIRES A GREAT DEAL OF VISION AND EXPRESSION. SEEING THIS VISION AND CREATIVITY MANIFEST ITSELF IN YOUR WORK CAN BE INCREDIBLY REWARDING. PUTTING YOUR CREATIVE FOOTPRINT ON A BUILDING, TOWN OR EVEN CITY IS EXTREMELY FULFILLING.
From your point of view, is design an art or a science?
ARCHITECTURE IS A COMBINATION OF ART AND SCIENCE. WHILE IT IS IMPORTANT TO DESIGN BUILDINGS WITH A VISION OF BEAUTY AND ELEGANCE, THERE ARE SOME NECESSARY ELEMENTS OF MATHEMATICAL SCIENCE THAT MUST BE APPLIED. ARCHITECTS MUST BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND HOW DIFFERENT MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS WORK TOGETHER.
If you had no limits (money, resources), what would you create?
I WOULD LOVE TO DESIGN A HUGE VILLA WITH ALL THE AMENITIES AND INCORPORATE ALL THE POSSIBLE TECHNOLOGIES. 🙂
