How did you come up with the name of your studio?
The word “FLYP” has been derived from the abbreviation FLIP , which stands for – Flip Limitations Into Possibilities. We follow this mantra in all our projects as there will always be challenges and limitations in life but it’s our skills and capabilities that open different possibilities. However, we chose the word “FLYP” instead because Y&P are the initials of the founders of the firm that is Ar. Yukti Goel & Ar. prince Katiyar. We at FLYP DESIGNS don’t transform spaces but we flip them from damn to glam.
What determined your passion for design? Tell us about the moment when you decided this is the way to go.
Our founder – Ar. Yukti Goel, coming from a Business family background, hardly had any prior idea of Interior Designing and Architecture as a professional field, but her creative outlook and a keen interest in designing led her to pursue a degree in B. Arch, from Amity School of Architecture & Planning. While our Co-founder Ar. Prince Katiyar brought up in a business family in Delhi had always been interested in Real estate and Architecture. He completed his degree in B. Arch from Amity as well. He likes to keep himself updated with the knowledge of cutting-edge building materials and incorporates them in Turnkey projects.
We got a small cafe interior project and from that day there was no looking back.
What kind of projects were you doing when you first started as a designer?
In the beginning, we were doing anything and everything that was coming in our way because every single opportunity is it small was a learning experience. However, we started out with a small 600 sqft cafe project that had a restricted time frame and a small budget. We even did part projects like designing a single room or living lounge in our initial days.
What field of design are you most interested in?
We have done various commercial and residential projects but our area of interest lies in residential interiors because the satisfaction of creating someone’s dream house is unmatched. Designing a residence is an intimate process that requires patience and expertise. Residential interiors can be challenging and nerve-wracking but at the same time satisfying.
What is your favorite book/magazine on design? How about your favorite site?
Our favorite magazine is “ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST”. It is a perfect magazine as there is a lot to learn and update my knowledge as an architect from it at the same time it’s a treat to the eye too for people who are not associated with this field professionally. This magazine is a great inspiration for upcoming interior designers and architects
What is your Signature Style?
We try experimenting with different styles so that with every project we bring something different to the table but using neutral tones and minimalistic elements in the projects is our personal favorite.
We at FLYP DESIGNS believe that “Why to choose between Luxury or budget when you can have both “. According to us, Luxury is a lifestyle, and with our extensive knowledge of materials, we can make any space luxurious within the given budget.
We make sure in every project that our designs are not aesthetically pleasing but also practical and functional.
What inspires you to thrive in this industry? Which piece of architecture inspires you the most.
Architecture and interior industry is altogether a different world. Every day is a new opportunity and a challenge. This industry is not just restricted to four walls, it is dynamic and each day is a new learning experience. Every day we get to socialize with a set of new clients, vendors, craftsmen, etc and we are intrigued by how everyone has a different mindset and skills to enrich us with.
In today’s world, every single building is an architectural masterpiece but the piece of architecture that inspires us the most is “THE PALM ISLANDS, DUBAI”- because it never fails to amaze us and makes us believe that with the correct use of technology and building materials a designer can successfully create something beyond imagination. This piece is the perfect example of turning your limitations into possibilities.
From your point of view, is design an art or a science?
Design is a blend of both because art and science have so much in common – the process of trial and error, finding something new and innovative, and to experiment and succeed in a breakthrough.
If you had no limits (money, resources), what would you create?
The world is amidst a pandemic and being an architect the best contribution that we can give to the country and the world is infrastructural facilities. If we had innumerable resources we would like to build hospitals and better housing facilities to bring out a change in the current situation.
What advice do you have for young designers or architects reading this interview?

Budding Designers and Architects should believe in themselves. Designing is an art. It requires passion. You have to enjoy designing in order to be a successful designer. Invest your time in updating your knowledge of contemporary materials and building techniques. Client satisfaction is the most important part of any designing project, understanding their requirements, interests, etc. Upcoming architects and designers should incorporate sustainable and eco – friendly materials and building practices as it is the need of the hour.
