NAKSH-loved the name instantly. It was inspired by the phrase “Naksha”, which means maps. As space planning is no less than finding your way through a map, the name Naksh seemed like the perfect fit.

What determined your passion for design? Tell us about the moment when you decided this is the way to go.
My passion and love for design have grown with time and experience. Initially, it was like shooting in the dark, but as the skills of the work increased, I could see my vision coming alive. I was able to see myself overcoming hurdles and reaching the desired results. The DRIVE, FOCUS, and PASSION are what have created the path for me.

What kind of projects were you doing when you first started as a designer?
Since Mumbai is the city where space comes at a premium, I started with primarily focusing on planning and layout. Converting smaller spaces into larger ones was the key. Utilizing every inch of space to accommodate all the requirements while not compromising on the aesthetics was important as well.

What field of design are you most interested in?
To achieve the complete looks in aesthetics, budget, and practicality, we have to master in all design fields. For me personally, I love the planning stage and the final accessorizing stage. Both being the extreme ends, it must be supported properly with the center stages of the project.

What is your favorite book/magazine on design? How about your favorite site?
Architectural Digest has been my favorite go-to book for many years. It has been a source of my inspiration for many years. Today it is a podium for Instagram, which helps to inspire me to consistently design new and innovative spaces.

What is your Signature Style?
That is for you to tell me. I only focus on creating the best possible solutions and designs that best fit the needs of the client. The design I aim for is where practicality meets aspirations.

What inspires you to thrive in this industry? Which piece of architecture inspires you the most.
What inspires me to thrive in this industry is the fierce competition and the constant change that comes with time. There is never a dull moment as there is always something new or different that comes along with each project. The architectural

piece ” The Leaning Tower of Pisa” inspires me the most, as it represents the motto of standing against all odds.

From your point of view, is design an art or a science?
Design is the perfect blend of science and art. It must have the element of design (art) and the theory of practicality and logic (science). One cannot stand without the other in the field of interior design.
If you had no limits (money, resources), what would you create?
I would first go back to all of my existing work and add all the elements which had been omitted due to budget constraints.
What advice do you have for young designers or architects reading this interview?
Three things a designer needs to keep in mind:

1. Mindset- a positive attitude towards the work and the passion to achieve the best possible.

2. Focus – To achieve the best results, you must work to the highest capacity to execute, hence the focus and the hard work is a must.

3. Prioritize – You must always keep in mind that it’s not about you, but about the client. In the end, they have to be happy with the work that is executed.
